To fully restore the park to the community we have ambitious plans for the land.
In the next couple of years, you will be seeing great changes happening to the park. As well as the events we’ll be holding in the space, we have plans to build a small heritage centre focussing on the history of the area and the park’s very own story.
We also want to build a Viking longhouse on the site; a tribute to the Viking heritage of the area, once believed to be a Viking parliament (‘Thing’), a meeting place for local families to come together to solve disputes, create laws and make important announcements of marriages and deaths. The longhouse will be used for schools’ trips and education for Key Stage 2 history sessions.
The plans also involve an outdoor theatre space. Summer will be the time to pack a picnic, come and experience the thrill of live performance in the open air. Shakespeare, music performances, and community and amateur theatre events will all take place on the site
